Position Overview
As the owner and product manager of the company’s software products, you will oversee all aspects of product ideation, design, and development. Your duties will start with discovery of the automobile recycling industry’s software packages and processes. This will be followed by product design, management of an out-sourced software development team, and the testing and maintenance of the products. You will be based in our corporate office in Toronto and will occasionally travel to Ontario’s Auto Recycling Yards to understand their business case. Occasional visits to the company’s engineering facilities in downtown Kingston, Ontario are possible. You will report to the VP of Strategic Partnerships. When not traveling, this team works 3-4 days-per-week in-person in the Toronto office.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the software development lifecycle.
- Work with the management teams to work on the discovery phase.
- Act as the product owner to develop a product vision for the new product.
- Analyze the complete competitive landscape to see what competitors are doing in the market.
- Analyze trend reports, industry content, market statistics, sales data, user stories, mockups, and metrics to come up with a working strategy.
- Manage the development process and the team members to ensure a quick and efficient product launch.
- Develop a complete product requirements document and as well as templates for reference.
- Work on the prioritization of new features based on usability, functionality, and user experience.
- Maintain a complete backlog of all the activities, processes, and workflows of all the relevant teams, stakeholders, and any external influencers and consultants.
What you bring:
- A bachelor’s degree in software development, computer science, or product management, or a related field.
- A master’s degree is preferred.
- Proven work experience as a product manager, software developer, or project manager is required.
- Experience managing an out-sourced development team.
- Certifications from reputable institutions and associations in product management or software-related fields.
- Extensive knowledge of various product functions, the software development process, and all things product management.
- The software product manager should be able to work with an agile methodology.
- Should be familiar with critical product concepts such as the MVP (Minimum Viable Product).
- Ability to manage and participate in the Daily Scrum and Sprint Planning.
- Excellent communication skills for effective stakeholder communication. That includes working with cross-functional teams and managing all of them simultaneously.
- Great interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, and research skills.
- Ability to develop status reports for external and executive stakeholders.
