Position Overview

We are looking for a Plant Operations Manager to run and manage our Spoke 1 metals recycling plant located in Kingston, Ontario. Reporting to the CEO, the position will oversee all departments of the plant (receiving, inventory management, production planning and execution, etc.) and maintain production schedules to ensure that all company goals are achieved, and deadlines are met for the facility.

The ideal candidate will foster and develop a work environment within metals recycling that promotes trust, teamwork, performance, quality, and safety.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Leads recycling activities of the plant to ensure that all projects are planned and managed on time to meet customer demands and due dates.
  • Partners with all functions including project management and engineering to ensure that all objectives for labour, material, costs, safety, and delivery are achieved.
  • Maintains high quality standards and controls in all phases of recycling – raw materials, work in process, and finished goods.
  • Promotes and ensures the health and safety of all employees.
  • Builds upon modern recycling and manufacturing concepts to promote cost savings, quality, and overall successful delivery to clients.
  • Partners with engineering to optimal operating efficiency and to ensure smooth and successful processing.
  • Conducts activities to establish and achieve operational objectives in areas of safety, quality, reliability, cost, continuous improvement, management. Ensures alignment with operations and corporate business strategy and goals while promoting great places to work initiatives.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of programs and practices that ensure the successful achievement of these objectives; monitors progress through measurement systems and ensures corrective action as needed.
  • Leads and collaborates with various functional groups, including recycling, manufacturing, engineering, planning/scheduling, information systems, supply management, and finance to deliver results.
  • Drives results and manages change through successful leadership and team development, as well as effective planning, organization, implementation, and execution.
  • Develop and implement strategies that build a continuous improvement culture throughout the plant.
  • Builds and maintains a highly motivated and engaged production team that is willing to move mountains to ensure the highest level of satisfaction for clients
  • Responsible for the successful implementation and management of the quality program to ensure the highest quality.
  • Ensure corporate on-time delivery reliability goals are achieved. Involves pro-active planning and control (e.g., forecasting, capacity planning, etc.) as well as daily problem-solving (e.g., resolving issues with equipment downtime, etc.).
  • Ensure a safe working environment for all employees. Responsible for the overall plant safety program, including establishing and meeting annual goals and objectives, ensuring employee training and development, administration of policies and procedures, and compliance with state and federal legislation.

What You Will Bring

  • 10 years of metal recycling experience or equivalent plant manufacturing operations with measurable results
  • A degree in Business or equivalent in a related field in lieu of extensive experience
  • Hands-on plant operations management experience
  • Project Management certification is an asset
  • Ability to travel between Canada and United States
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced work environment.
