Position Overview
At Cyclic Materials, we look for bright, ambitious, innovative team players who enjoy challenges and have a drive to produce results. As a member of the Engineering and Technology team, you will be assisting in the development of our Spoke and Hub processes. Your duties will encompass all things related to mechanical engineering, including design, commissioning, and continuous improvement of the processes. You will be based either in our Toronto office or our Kingston office- we are open to either or both. Occasional travel to plant sites and some vendors are possible. When not traveling, this cohesive team works 4 days a week in-person.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and lead equipment specification and selection.
- Prepare plans, designs, sizing calculations, and materials selection.
- Create mechanical designs and fabrication drawings for custom equipment.
- Prepare or provide input to 3D models and 2D mechanical drawings.
- Interface with equipment venders and manage equipment procurement.
- Prepare other specifications that meet mechanical requirements, such as for piping, valves, and coatings.
- Create maintenance plans for major equipment.
- Interface with laboratory and operating personnel to support the design, installation, commissioning, and operation of Cyclic Material’ plants.
- Manage projects and meet deadlines.
- Review and advise on technical documents submitted by vendors.
- Prepare technical specification packages and perform technical bid evaluations for procurement of mechanical equipment.
- Develop and mentor junior engineers
- Other engineering duties, as assigned.
What you bring
We seek an assortment of skills that would include all or a mix of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
- 5-10 years of Engineering experience and a professional engineering designation or eligible to be Licensed as a Professional Engineer
- Demonstrated design and engineering experience in a heavy industrial environment.
- Advanced knowledge of Solid Works, including modules such as FEA, weldments, routing, sheet metal
- Experience with design to meet regulatory standards, such as CSA and OSHA standards.
- Experience with generating equipment design specifications and Material-Take-Offs (MTO)
- Experience with procurement of equipment from RFP to operations.
- Knowledge and experience with piping and plant layout.
- Ability to travel between Canada and the United States.
- Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety.
- Ability to operate in a dynamic Startup environment, contributing outside of specific responsibilities
